Sporting will face Vasco in their final Goa Pro League Clash at Raia Sports Complex on Thursday. The Flaming Oranje have already pocketed the title as Churchill Bros drew their round 18 clash against Calangute Association. With this result Sporting sit on top of the table comfortably with 36 points while Churchill end up on 31, both teams having one match left to play. The tournament saw a topsy-turvy ride from many of the heavy weights of Goan Football. Sporting opened the tournament with back to back losses against Churchill Bros and Cavelossim after which they recovered well and turned the table around. Sporting’s Odafa Okolie has been in sublime form during the entire tournament, he leads the goal tally with 11 goals most of which were decisive for the team. His combination with Ganesh Thakur and Marcus Mascarenhas has created nightmares for defenders in the Goa Pro League.

The final fixture between Vasco SC and Sporting will be equally challenging for both sides as they would look to sign off the tournament on a high. Previous fixture between the two sides saw Sporting get better of Vasco 3 – 1 as their star striker Odafa Okolie scored a brace and Marcus Mascarenhas netted a fantastic goal. Chinedu Ejidgu was the scorer for Vasco SC.

“We want to finish the tournament on a high” said Mateus Costa, he further added “This is completely in our hands; we will not wait for the other results. We will go out there with the intention to pocket full three points, no compromise on that.”

“The season has been fantastic for us so far, from the successive defeats at the start to this day where we are in control of the title. It’s truly a remarkable achievement, full credits to the boys. They have stood up to the challenge, faced criticism, but throughout the league each and everyone has become a better player. Every time we gave a new player an opportunity they took up the responsibility.”

However Sporting will lack the services of some key players, the defense unit will have to go in without Clement Joseph, while Alber Gonsalves who had a fantastic outing in the last match will have to watch this one from the stands.
