Sporting Clube De Goa has added ARINDAM BHATTACHARYA & DHARMARAJ RAVANAN from FC Pune City to boost their squad for the upcoming I-League 2016. The former made 4 appearances while the latter got 10 starts in the recently concluded Indian Super League.
Speaking about the addition Sporting Head Coach Mateus Costa said “We are pleased to get them on board, both are quality players who have featured in I-League and ISL. Their presence can be a huge advantage for us.”
He further added “We were looking for someone multi talented in the defense and Ravanan was our first choice. He fits well into our plan and comes with loads of experience at the top flight. He can play in various positions and manage the back line well, am sure he will be a smart and successful signing for us.”
When quizzed about Arindam the gaffer said “On his day nothing goes past him, we needed someone who could boost the confidence of our defense, with Arindam under the bar am sure the boys will play their natural game. There were a lot of discussion but Arindam came up as everyone’s favourite. It is also a huge advantage for our young keepers who will get to learn a lot from his presence. The unit is already excited about I-League 2016 and we are looking forward.”
Speaking to us Ravanan mentioned, “This is a new challenge for me and am looking forward to it. Previously I have played a lot of matches against Sporting, I know how competitive they are and what their expectation levels would be. The moment I was contacted, they explained me what they expect and I felt it’s good to play for a club that acknowledges my specialities. Also adjusting with the team wasn’t a problem as I know most of the players and feel very comfortable around them.”
He went on “I am not new to Goa, I understand the passion Goan’s share for football and I will give my best for the team, the club, fans and football lovers of Goa.”
A delighted new Sporting custodian said “I am happy to play for Sporting and also very happy to play in Goa.” Arindam added “I do understand the clubs requirements and I will strive to give in my 100% trying to mount a successful season ahead for the Club owners, fans and myself.”
