It was all square at Fatorda as Sporting held Bagan in a thrilling 1 – 1 draw on Tuesday. Brendon Fernandes fired for Mohun Bagan in the 28th minute while super sub Victorino Fernandes forced Raju  Gaikawad to net one in their own goal at the stroke of 38th minute.

Sporting made a wholesale change to their side coming into this fixture. Gaffer Mateus Costa handed starts to Rowllin Borges, Joseph Clement, Glan Martins and Subashish Bose. While Bagan enjoyed the services of Luciano Sobrosa.

The match kicked off to a flyer as Sporting had their first real look at the goal well within 7 minutes when skipper Odafa managed to beat a bunch of defenders and then round off the keeper with the nets straight in sight. However the ball Odafa rolled in went inches past the far post while the crowd which had already erupted was left wondering what exactly happened.

At the other end Celment and Loveday were operating smoothly keeping Glen and Norde under check. The Mariners had their moment in the 21st minute when Glen’s shot deflected off Loveday as it seemed to be well directed towards the goal only for Clement to make a fantastic clearance.

In the 28th minute Norde’s sudden burst was too much for Sporting defense to handle as his individual brilliance and ball control ensured that a well directed cross finds a maroon shirt at the end. Quite interestingly Brandon Fernandes poked the cross in to put Bagan ahead against his ex team.

The Gaffer Mateus Costa immediately introduced his go to man Victorino Fernandes who didn’t disappoint after all. Once again in less than 5 minutes Victorino set Nicholas Fernandes up with a beautiful cross from the right after showing some excellent dribbling skills only to find Raju Gaikwad of Bagan reaching the ball before Fernandes but providing the same result. Both teams walked back into the tunnels with a 1 – 1 score line.

The second half once again saw Sporting coming close on numerous occasions. Less than 5 minutes into the second half Odafa brilliantly beat the off side trap to receive a good long ball into the box. Everyone in the stadium was on the edge of their seats but nothing came off it.  At the other end Norde and Glen combined well to launch a counter but the latter shot straight into the hands of Arindam.

In the final 10 minutes Sporting had their best chance to take home full 3 points as a shot from Glan was blocked by Majumder only to send the ball straight to Odafa. The Skipper did well to trick his marker but failed to spot Mahmoud who was screaming his lungs out from an open position. In the end Odafa saw his shot going straight to Kinshuk who was never letting it get past. The game ended with the same score line as either teams failed to do any damage in the second half.
