Sporting Clube De Goa is all set to kick off their I-league 2015-16 campaign as they host Kingfisher East Bengal tomorrow at PJN Stadium, Fatorda. The Sporting side has shaped up well and the unit is confident of a good show ahead of their season opener against the Red & Gold brigade.

“We have some of the most talented lads from Goa, who am sure can make the difference” – stated Mateus Costa. He further said “This squad has put up a formidable performance previously in the I-League ending it in style and then were unstoppable in the Goa Pro League. We look to carry forward the momentum.”

When quizzed about the slow start in the previous I-league Matues said “Yes last year we did some mistakes early, for which we have gone through the learning curve. This season we did a rigorous study of the short comings and have made some crucial signings in those positions.”

“We used Goa Pro League to hand pick the best talent within the state handing them a chance to prove themselves at the national stage. We do understand I-League is far more challenging but we are confident that the boys can step up to the big occasion. We align ourselves with the motto of the club which is giving the local lads a platform to display their talent.”

The Sporting Captain Odafa Okolie added, “We have given our 120% in the training sessions and am confident that we as a unit are ready to go that extra mile to turn things around.”

When asked about the responsibility upfront Odafa said “I will give my best for this club, Sporting are a good side and I have some very talented players around who can understand and coordinate well which is very important for any result to be favourable.”

The East Bengal head coach Biswajit Bhattacharya mentioned “The training has been good, some new additions but the team is gelling well and we look forward towards the league.” When quizzed about the pressure mounting from Mohun Bagan’s I-League victory he smilingly said “When the question involves East Bengal and Mohun Bagan there is always a pressure, but it’s a positive one which we enjoy.”

He went ahead and made an appeal to all East Bengal fans “Believe in us, we are here for you guys. Support us back from Kolkata, your spirit is what keeps us going. He also requested all East Bengal fans in Goa to come out in large number.”

The Red & Gold brigade captain Robert Lalthlamuana had the following to say, “I am very excited about the I-league, recently we have been very close on occasions but couldn’t finish it as we expected. This season we are confident and we will do everything in our capacity to cross the line.”
