After the fantastic 3-2 victory against Mumbai FC our Head Coach Mateus Costa had a chat with Sporting Media.  Here is what he had to say about our win and the way forward.

“These were very crucial 3 points. Breaking the jinx at home was very important. We have been playing good football throughout but somehow failed to seal the 3 points in previous occasions.  This time around it was a different story.” Said Mateus Costa.

He further said “Full credits to the boys; they have shown true character in the previous match. We found ourselves a goal behind on two occasions. Mumbai FC as a unit is known for their defensive tactics once ahead they had closed the doors for our forwards, but our boys managed to put up a great show.”

Mateus Costa further added “There was that intent and hunger in the boys, they refused to give up. Every player on the pitch that day gave more than 100% and it was clearly visible.”

“I keep telling them to believe in themselves, that is the most important factor. A game of football is not over till the final whistle. We have seen teams winning it in the dying moments; leagues have been won in the added time. So basically it’s not over if we are behind and that’s exactly what happened the other day.” Said the Gaffer.

When asked about the introduction of Victorino, Gaffer responded “He is that kind of a player who can change the complexion of any match. Ganesh himself had a fantastic match the first goal came of a move which he started, but at that point it was too much to ask from him so we introduced Victorino.”

The Gaffer also heaped up praises for the skipper Odafa Okolie “It’s too early to write off Odafa, he is an asset to any team. In every match he is swarmed by defenders but still manages to take his shot’s send in a couple of good balls and score regularly. He still has the lethal venom to go ahead and change the result of a game on any given day.”

When asked about the way forward in this league, Costa said “It’s too early to conclude anything; we have two tricky matches away from home and we are focusing on them at the moment. We will take one match at a time and try to get maximum points from it. We are in a good position currently it’s time to put our best foot forward.”
