Sporting Clube De Goa will come out all guns blazing on Sunday as they take on the I-League new comers DSK Shivajians FC in their second match of I-League 2015-16. Sporting who started off their first match against East Bengal on a high found them self on the losing end in spite of playing some good football throughout 90 minutes, courtesy a late surge from the Red and Gold Brigade who netted 3 goals in the span of 15 minutes.
“We are definitely looking to bounce back. We played well in the previous match, lost out on some glorious chances which cost us the game.” Said the Sporting Gaffer Mateus Costa.
He further said “We started the match with a lot of confidence, created a lot of chances initially. The 1-3 score line is not a correct representation of the match.”
When quizzed about the new DSK side Mateus said “We are more interested in getting our strategies right, we would focus on our game and try to rectify the mistakes we did in the last match.”
The gaffer also stressed “The home advantage is very important and we have to exploit the same given that after this match we fly away for the next three.” On conclusion of tomorrows match Sporting will be heading to the northern lands of Aizwal FC followed by Shillong and then a trip down south to Kanteerava. The next home match of Sporting will be on 11th February where they face their local rivals Salgaocar FC in a high voltage Goan Derby.
When asked about the dressing room mood post an early defeat at the hands of East Bengal the coach said “Yes there is a little pressure but it’s a good thing. The loss was an eye opener we have done the necessary homework to avoid those situations. Its history now and we will use it as a mere reference point. Our focus is on this match and we will want to continue the kind of play we displayed in the initial parts of that (previous) game
The Sporting captain Odafa Okolie said “The boys are confident and we will look to go out there and come back with 3 points. Tomorrow will be a much better day”
Sporting have received a massive boost ahead of tomorrow’s clash as their inform midfielder Rowllin Borges is fit to play. His presence should be definitely a plus to the Flaming Oranje attacking pair Odafa Okolie and Mahmoud Amnah who were craving for good supply in the last match.
The DSK Head Coach Derrick Pereira said “Starting off with an away match is a real test for us. We will take one match at a time, our objective is to go out there and play our natural game. “
When asked about how the side has been shaping up he said “The boys are gelling well, we have a good mix of fresh as well as experienced legs which adds a good balance to the side.”
DSK have some very experienced international players in the likes of Zohib Amiri and Douhou Pierre both of whom have had a fantastic stint with the Goan outfits Dempo SC & Salgaocar FC respectively and will be well versed with the playing conditions in Goa.
Derrick further said “The team has been doing well in practice sessions; also I have watched them in the DSK Cup. This is a different ball game but I am confident we have got the right mix.”
